SAMO

Jean-Michel Basquiat was one of the first artists that I really appreciated when I found out about him in college. I went back and forth with myself about his work, if I really enjoyed it or not. I do. His work can be very chaotic and calm at the same time. There is a nice combination of busy line work matched with larger fields of color that creates this balance.  Just a thought I am having today. Check this recent showing out at the Gagosian Gallery.

Frogmen, 1983
I was four or five when he made this. Love that aqua.

really amazing

Marina Abramovic and Ulay started an intense love story in the 70s, performing art out of the van they lived in. When they felt the relationship had run its course, they decided to walk the Great Wall of China, each from one end, meeting for one last big hug in the middle and never seeing each other again.
At her 2010 MoMa retrospective Marina performed ‘The Artist Is Present’ as part of the show, where she shared a minute of silence with each stranger who sat in front of her. Ulay arrived without her knowing and this is what happened.

dead?

Is blogging dead or are people just busy doing other things? Maybe instagram and twitter are just as functional. Maybe even facebook, maybe. And now vine. It is so annoying to have all these accounts and keep up with them, I think that is the problem. Just a thought I had this morning. I'm going to go paint.

abc dream

I love this illustrated book by Kim Krans. I found it at Anthropologie a few months ago and thought it was amazing. I wanted to run to the studio and start making pencil drawings. The idea is simple, a book about the alphabet. The drawings on the other hand are very clever and well executed. A for awesome.

I hope I can get this where it needs to go. Love this little painting and the reason it was made.
