sunset

I am at the studio and noticed an amazing sunset.  Went to the rooftop for some images.

Sean Scully

R. Eric Davis: Why do you make art?

Sean Scully: I think that I wanted to do something in my life that wasn't ordinary - which wasn't normal. I couldn't bear to live my life as a normal person, put another way: conventionally. So if I had a choice between living in suburbia and being dead, I would rather be dead. That implies I am going to do something with my life that is not ordinary. Then it is only a question of what that is.

He is one of my favorite painters, just thought I would share.  I also like his answer.

garbage

The drawings I have been working on are absolute garbage.  Nothing seems to be working together.  I don't think I am going to be ready for any event coming up.  ugh.....

the list

My progress in the studio is now being documented on one of my studio walls.  I know I don't make it up there as much as I would like, but it is different to actually see it written out in front of my face.  Jake, I guess I can call him a studio mate, (he says he is a writer) began this project on 8/24.  If nothing has been worked when he comes in the next day I get a big, fat NOTHING on the wall next to the date.  It is pretty funny and sad at the same time.  Yes, today there was a NOTHING.  Here is the documentation and progress I made tonight.  Not good progress.

At least I am trying to blog more........

Chapel

Chapel was officially adopted by Jen and I on Saturday.  She seemed to be quite a popular dog and there even was a blog dedicated to her and her story.  If you would like to read about her go here.

Jamie Vasta

I searched for Jamie on facebook about a week ago.  We went to the same high school and were in many art classes together.  She was the first person to use oils in class if I remember correctly.  She always busted out work and it appears she still does, just thought I would share.

I really like her use of light, not many people can capture that.  I really love the reference to Judith slaying Holofernes (one of my favorite paintings ever).

painting

Yesterday I painted for about 2 hours and it was probably one of the most productive sessions I have had in awhile.  I am trying to make it to the studio when I can and make of the most of the time I spend there.  Here is the progress:

studio shot:

I should be posting a bit more because Jen just bought me a new camera.  It is pretty sweet.  Actually feel like a painter today.
