Jen Mann

I saw Jens work posted on Facebook.  I had to look her up.  I love the birds and figure combination.  She went to school for printmaking but also paints.  Here are a few paintings that I really liked.  Check the rest out here.

The Opening

Last Saturday was the opening of the Rochester-Finger Lakes Exhibition at the Memorial Art Gallery.  It was packed!  There was a lot of really good work and a great assortment of all mediums.  My painting was located at the entrance into the show.  I thought that was pretty cool.  Everyone had to see it, right?  If you can make it, I suggest checking it out.  I am going to visit again so I can really spend some time looking.

For being a large painting, it looked very small in such a large setting.  I wonder what they thought?

hope to see you

I keep saying I have news but I have not shared it yet.  I am included in the Rochester-Finger Lakes Exhibition at the Memorial Art Gallery.  I was surprised when I received the e-mail but thought to myself, finally.  It was a relief.  I've tried for years.  The opening is this Saturday, July 23, 8-11.  More info can be found here.

And the piece that got in.....you will have to go see it.  Just kidding.  If you read my blog then you have already seen it.  If you share a studio with me then you have helped move it a million times.

The next book I will read is Just Kids by Patti Smith.  It is about her relationship with photographer Robert Mapplethorpe.

Sophie Blackall

I read about Sophie Blackall on a plane to or from Grenada, I don't remember which.  What a smart idea.  Clever.  I am not into illustration, but these are great.  I had to look her up and check it out.  I think you should also.  Her project (I think I can call it a project) is Missed Connections.  She reads the missed connections section of craigs list and creates drawings of specific notes for her work.  I love it.

You can also check out her shop.

white

I have not painted much because I need to get some white paint.  I am just being lazy.  It's been over a month.  Just not in the mood.  I was told to just do something, just start.  I don't know if I work that way.  I do know if I had white paint I would be painting.  I just haven't went out to get it.

I really love the bottom image,  it reminds me of how I paint over paintings.

History

I know I am a little late in posting this, but I am a Yankee fan and Derek Jeter crushed hit number 3000 in incredible fashion.  This is the best video I could find.  It is from a fan that was recording.  I think it is a pretty cool perspective.  Skip to 3:25 for the hit if you don't want to wait.

And........Robinson Cano won the home run derby.  Congrats! Go YANKS!

Il Diavolo

Of course, some Gino pics.........he is handsome.....

Windsor Cottage

Here are a few images of my work at Windsor Cottage.  I think they look really great the way they are displayed.  If you buy Parachute Dreams (the yellow painting),  you have to buy the red chairs.  And the lamps.  And the table!  I love the way it all looks together.  I really need to thank the Windsor Cottage staff for having me as their artist of the month for July.  THANK YOU!

If you couldn't make it to the opening, you should really go check it out.  And not just the art, make your living room pop with those red chairs!

The water above was really good, that is why there is an image of it.....
