saturday painting

I think I just finished the Chapel painting.  I have been wanting to enhance the facial features a bit, the eyes more specifically.  As far as the Gino pee painting, it was attacked by pink.  Almost finished.

the hi-risers for the mid week

I was out at the new Sticky Lips last week to see the Hi-Risers.  They are fantastic.  Ernie O described the band as "squeaky clean, almost too clean."  Here they are with One Note Joe.  This song has been in my head since the show.

aluminum

I have been noticing some really cool can designs lately.  I am really interested in the layout, color choices and different font styles.  I would love to paint some kind of logo across a painting, if it worked of course.  Here are a few that have caught my attention.

Diet Coke
Red Bull

Magic Hat #9

Brooklyn Summer Ale
 And Rochester's own....

Genesee Beer

Genesse Bock Beer
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.  Also, I will try to post some images of that little attic/master bedroom, bathroom project.  It's happening, just a bit slower then planned.

the Joy Formidable

Jen and I went with some friends a few months back to see them.  They were unbelievable.  I couldn't believe that a 3 person band could be so loud and jam so hard.  They only played for about 50 minutes, but other then that the show was great.  Check them out.

Jen waiting for the band
We did end up meeting the band, super nice.  I wish this image was not blurry.  I can't figure out why some images from my phone are blurry and others are not.  I don't change any settings.  What the shit?!

And another song by the Joy Formidable.

last day

A little warmth heading into winter.  This is Chapel at hamlin beach, our last beach day of the year.  Yes, this was about 2 months ago.  (If you haven't noticed, I am trying to jam a bunch of things in that I have not gotten to.)  Here she is....

PasSage

These are images from my show at the PasSage space at the U of R.

It is a really great space with high traffic.  Thanks again U of R!!!

wow

Wow is the only word that comes to mind when I think about Friday night.  It was pretty unbelievable.  I am talking about the opening of Pistachio Press: Letterpress and local.  It also marked the opening of our new studio space.  It was four hours of non stop everything.  Talking, meeting people, catching up with friends, exchanging info etc.  I thought it would be a big night, but it was better then we could have imagined.  Thank you to everyone who attended.  If you didn't get the chance, STOP IN!!  Art is still up on the walls and the shop is officially open.

Pistachio Press: Letterpress and Local

My friends at Pistachio Press will soon be opening their boutique style shop featuring local handmade art as well as their own line of stationary.  How soon you ask??  This FRIDAY!!!!  Come and join in the grand opening!

Hope to see you there!!

new space

It has been about a month in a half since a regular post, if that is what you can call it.  I have been trying to make the most of my time between working, painting, hanging with Jen and random other shit.  The blog has been neglected.  The biggest news I would say is I have moved into a new studio space.  We went from the 4th floor to the first.  I was really hesitant and tried to find a way to keep the space on the 4th floor.  I love that studio.  It was like the pent house of studios in my eyes.  Gigantic windows, natural light, paint covered floors and swearwords on the wall.  My own little corner of the world.  There was no way to keep it though, so I moved with my studio mates.
The new space I believe is a little larger (by space I mean my section) than the old studio spot.  I do not have any windows which is a bummer,  but I am also not storing all my paintings in the work area.  It is also nice not to have to walk up four flights of stairs.  I also believe there will be more traffic coming through because we share the space with Booksmart Studios.  Pistachio Press has also expanded and now has a little boutique in the works with a store front.  (Pistachio Press are my studio mates of 5 years) More on that soon!  Jen Burger also shares the space right next to me.   I will miss the view from the 4th floor though.  A lot of imagery in my work was stolen from outside the window.  Not sure what else to write about it.  It will work.  With that said, here is my first view from the back door parking lot level.  I will probably draw it.

the joy formidable

It's Monday, here is some music.  The Joy Formidable, Whirring.  The band is awesome, the video is awesome.  They will be in Rochester on the 30th at the Water Street Music Hall.  It may be sold out which is a huge bummer.  Have a sweet ass Monday!

birthday

Ginos birthday was on the 18th.  Mine is today.  We share August.   In celebration, I will post a drawing of Gino with a birthday hat.  Artist Aaron Humby created this image after I posted a picture of Gino on Facebook.  I thought I would share and shamelessly plug my birthday.

Pretty sweet, right?

monday morning

I am running on Dunkin this morning and now I feel gross.

Mondays music will be brought to you by Kanye West.  The song is Runaway.  The video is kind of odd, but I love the background color of the warehouse mixed with the cream tux and ballet dancers.  Real simple.  This is the edited version because the video quality is better then the unedited.  If you like this video there is a movie version about 34 minutes long on you tube.  He may be considered an asshole, but I like him.

naked and famous

I love the song Young Blood by The Naked and Famous.  I just bought the disc and I really like it.  I really like everything.  The video was well done and really represents the song. I will listen to it in the studio today and try to shake off some bad luck.  Hope you like it.

spaceman 3

David Mach coat hanger sculpture of a spaceman.  More work here.

spaceman 2

Sticking with the spaceman theme, once again on my blog I give you the Killers performing Spaceman.  Oddly, I do not see a spaceman.

These are all over Rochester.  I wish they were mine.

still painting

I continued to paint today......

It's a funny thing when I am in the studio.  I worry so much about every brushstroke, every color, if the image is exactly in proportion etc.  What I am saying is I worry to much about making art.  Others say it is therapeutic, some say fun.  I sit overanalyzing and thinking just to come up with paintings of my dogs. I only mention this because of the images above.  I am wondering if I should have left the colors of the top image.  The bottom image is not as blue as the actual piece though.  I also painted over the orange on the bottom after the image was taken.  I like it better with the orange now.  Just sayin.

My Morning Jacket

Starting the week off with Holdin onto Black Metal by My Morning Jacket.  I was a bit disappointed that there is not an official video, but I like the song so much I had to post it.  Have fun!

white paint update

I now have white paint.  Underpainting, Mixing and Titanium white.  And some Buff Titanium.  So I painted.

Not sure why the first image is blurry, sorry.

the killers

I'm starting Monday off with The Killers.  Mr. Brightside.  The record reminds me of 2005 or 06 when I was in the studio preparing for a show.  It always takes me back.

Jen Mann

I saw Jens work posted on Facebook.  I had to look her up.  I love the birds and figure combination.  She went to school for printmaking but also paints.  Here are a few paintings that I really liked.  Check the rest out here.
