hope to see you

I keep saying I have news but I have not shared it yet.  I am included in the Rochester-Finger Lakes Exhibition at the Memorial Art Gallery.  I was surprised when I received the e-mail but thought to myself, finally.  It was a relief.  I've tried for years.  The opening is this Saturday, July 23, 8-11.  More info can be found here.

And the piece that got in.....you will have to go see it.  Just kidding.  If you read my blog then you have already seen it.  If you share a studio with me then you have helped move it a million times.

Congrats! Incredible picture, it certainly elicits lots of emotions in a person (I feel a range of sadness to awe to anger for the bull), which I'm sure will be recognized and shared by all. Interested to hear about the range of emotions people feel when they look at this painting. Take notes at the gallery and share :-) I'm too far away to go (MD), but I wish you the best of luck and can't wait to read about it!

Thanks! I didn't really get to hear many comments about my piece during the opening. Just a few "I really this." comments. I thought it would be awkward if I was just hanging around my painting with my name tag on. But a few ladies saw it in the studio one night and gave me an earful about animal cruelty.

Yes, I can see the animal cruelty. My first thought was just that. But, you aren't doing the animal cruelty, you aren't glorifying it, simply portraying it. That's why I feel such a range of emotions. It was hurtful to see the painting, but, honestly, the dripping blood wasn't the first thing I saw, but the beautiful creature, then I saw it and got sad and angry. It really speaks about the harm we do to our beautiful creatures, honestly.
